Consolidation Task

For my media text i have chosen the GQ magazine cover. The demographic audience for this magazine is males aged 20-35. Whereas the psychographic audience is business men who are into the latest fashion range. The psychographic audience is also men who are interested in general knowledge and technology this is reinforced buy the quote ‘the 14 most annoying tweets on twitter’ in the secondary article. On the front of the magazine Joseph Gordon Levitt is dressed in business wear, this attracts the target audience as it shows men what they could  look like if they read the and take tips from this magazine. The style of the magazine is very formal this reinforces the purpose. The colour scheme is red, white and grey. Red is used in the magazine to give it a modern look and feel, it is also used to highlight the key information that the editors want to catch your eye with. The colour red is vibrant and has connotations of energy. the colour red ensures that it stands out over all the other magazines.
The product addresses the reader by the placement of the model he is central making eye contact directly addressing the reader. The colours and layout of the magazine work together to make the product look fresh and modern, further inviting both the demographic and psychographic audience.
This product represents the main model as a typical business man to help to appeal to the reader who is an everyday business man. the reason this will appeal to the reader is because it could make them feel as if even tho they are just an everyday man they can look like him and be as rich as him which will appeal to the envious side of the reader to show that if you work hard enough then you can be this kind of man you can be rich and successful and maybe you will be on the front of GQ magazine being called a 'boy wonder'.

Use of Camera Angles and Movement in The Shining clip

  1. What camera angles and shots are used when Wendy is reading the type writer?
The camera angles and shots are as follows we first have a medium close-up shot of Wendy walking towards the typewriter, then we have a low angle shot of her looking at the typewriter then a POV shot of her looking through the writing upon the typewriter.
2. How do the make us feel?

-Medium close-up shot: This shot makes us feel as if there is nothing out of the ordinary as if it is just a woman walking into the room looking at a type writer.

-Low angle shot: This shot makes the viewer feel that the woman is superior however this is juxtaposed where the woman is very fearful of what is written on the type writer and is in-fact inferior and scared of the writing of what Jack wrote.

-POV shot: This shot makes the viewer feel the fear that Wendy is feeling of what the type writer is constantly repeating of the phrase 'All work and no  play makes Jack a dull boy' which strikes fear into the heart of Wendy because they have been there for weeks and all he has done is repeat the phrase over and over again for hundreds of hundreds of pages.

3. Where does the zoom-in take place, and what is its effect?
The zoom-in takes place as she moves away from the type writer and looks more towards the finished pile of paper as she looks down at them. The zoom-in is used to emphasise upon the writing and the amount of times he has wrote it over and over and over again. The effect on the viewer is to try and worry them as to why Jack has been writing it so many times and to maybe worry them about Wendy's safety incase Jack has gone insane. the zoom in shows that at first she was just looking at a stack of paper and there is nothing to it and as it zooms in we see that her worries are confirmed and Jack is in-fact crazy. Also we see some of the desk before the zoom in which shows that she is still aware of the world around her and as she zooms in we see that she is oblivious to everything around her which allows jack to enter the room unnoticed.

4. What camera shots are used as jack moves into the room?

The camera shots used as jack enters are as follows we look over Jacks shoulder to swatch Wendy read through his work then we have a medium shot

  • An over the shoulder shot
  • A medium shot
5. How do they make us feel?

-Over the shoulder shot: This makes the viewer feel that Wendy is in danger and the baseball bat may have to be used against her own husband's insanity is now out of control and we become worried that Wendy may get attacked from behind without her even knowing it because of how silently Jack entered the scene. This shot makes the viewer fear for Wendy because someone has been quietly watching her look through Jack's 'work' and has gingerly creeped over to watch her silently and to scare her by suddenly speaking to her and make her scream.

-Medium shot: This makes the reader feel fearful that jack may do something to his wife as he talks he slowly walks over to the type writer harmlessly asking her what she is doing down here however the way he asks her is an extremely worrying tone of voice as if, if she was to say the wrong thing he would attack her.
